The VPN works just fine, I went to a website just to confirm my IP and it really thinks I live elsewhere. If the extension doesn't helps you, I suggest you to open your mobile hotspot since it covers your IP but its not too good but neither bad.

In my Chrome is not hiding my IP at all, much to the contrary is showing as if not using a VPN.

Useless. It will not work even with a premium account. And you are forced to keep your subscription until expiry no option to cancel and get a refund even if you use it for 3 minutes
